I can’t emphasis it enough, photography is a language of communication.  It is no different with music. The individual notes become secondary. You fall in love with a song because it speaks to your soul.   As with photography, feelings play a greater role in the process of creating than f/stops, shutter speeds or lighting ratios.  You may not be able to truly define art, but I believe you can define an artist.  It is someone who creates.  The level at which you create has to do with how much passion, time, energy you put into the process.
